Written and recorded during the depths of winter, Sleep & Relief is a melancholy look at the effects of isolation and separation from human connection. The cognitive effects of prolonged stress and a long, isolating, year are on display with short songs that seem to abruptly end or mutate into unrecognizable forms, long experimental tracks that bring chaos and minimalism together, as well as the occasional track that would more or less be the usual Darph sound that starts with a single thread of an idea that weaves and builds to a crescendo.
In some ways it is a return to a less experimental form of musical expression while simultaneously integrating new instrumentation and techniques into the recording process in a way that is more coherent than ever before.
